To better serve our clients we have offices in different regions

Our Regions

The Export Processing Zones Authority has three operational Regional offices based on geographical locations, to oversee promotion of EPZ programs. The regional offices promote the mandate of the Operations & Investor Support Directorate and the EPZ Authority at large. The regions are Coast Region & North Eastern, Nairobi & Eastern Region and Western Region. The Regional offices are headed by Regional Heads.

Nairobi, Central and Eastern Region

The Nairobi and Eastern region hosts 12 counties which are:

  • Nairobi
  • Kajiado
  • Machakos
  • Makueni
  • Kitui
  • Kiambu
  • Murang’a
  • Embu
  • Meru
  • Nyeri
  • Kirinyaga
  • Tharaka Nithi

The regional offices are located at Athi River EPZ at the Zone Offices.

Presently, distribution of operational EPZ enterprise by county are as follows:

  • Nairobi-12
  • Machakos-56
  • Muranga-2
  • Kiambu-2
  • Embu-2
  • Promotion of the EPZ Program
  • Managing Athi River Public Export Processing Zone
  • Retaining existing EPZ enterprises/Zones,
  • Continuous Investor support in all EPZ Regions
  • Ensuring investors comply with Legal, Statutory & Laws of Kenya,
  • Liaising with Government agencies on behalf of the Authority and
  • Offering public relations.
  • Accessibility through two highways; (Nairobi-Mombasa and Nairobi-Namanga)
  • Proximity to Standard Gauge Railway Station at Athi River and in Nairobi
  • Proximity to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
  • Proximity to Inland Container Depot
  • Well laid down infrastructure including roads, electricity, water and sewer systems
  • Developed warehouses for lease and undeveloped plots for lease to private developers.
  • Developed warehouses for incubation of Small and Micro Enterprises
  • Customs & Excise office within the Zone
  • A health facility within the zone
  • Financial institutions at the Business Centre at the business centre
  • Operational Police Post within the in addition to contracted private security firms
  • Availability of skilled labour
  • Cafeteria facilities within the zone

The Athi River Public Zone covers 339 hectares and was gazetted in 1990. The Zone is home to the EPZA headquarters at Administration Building.

There are other private zones which have specific beneficial features which differentiate them from publicly owned including their smaller size and proximity to other industries.

  • Promotion of the EPZ Program
  • Managing Kipevu Public Export Processing Zone
  • Ensuring the retention of existing EPZ enterprises/Zones in the EPZ Program
  • Continuous Investor support in the region
  • Ensuring Investors compliance with Legal, Statutory & Laws of Kenya
  • Liaising with Government agencies on behalf of the Authority and Investors in the region and
  • Offering public relations in respective offices and regions.
  • Proximity to Mombasa modern seaport. New port is proposed to be constructed in Lamu.
  • Proximity to Mombasa International Airport
  • Proximity to Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway station in Miritini
  • Extensive road network connecting Mombasa Island and other parts of the country
  • Availability of labour in the region and from other parts of the country.
  • Availability of County Governments land for lease
  • Security at Kipevu Zone provided by contracted private security firm
  • Presently, there are 32 operational EPZ enterprises in the region.

The Kipevu Public Zone was gazetted into an EPZ in 1993. It covers 38.90 hectares. Plots in Kipevu Zone are leased to EPZ investors to develop for their own use or to lease to other EPZ enterprises.

The regional office is located at Kaunda Avenue Off Dedan Kimathi Street-Kizingo in Mombasa County.

Western and Rift Valley Region

The Western Region hosts 26 counties that include:

  • Busia
  • Bungoma
  • Vihiga
  • Kakamega
  • Siaya
  • Kisumu
  • Migori
  • Homabay
  • Kisii
  • Nyamira
  • Nandi
  • Trans Nzoia
  • West Pokot
  • Promotion of the EPZ Program
  • Continuous Investor support in Western Region
  • Ensuring investors comply with Legal, Statutory & Laws of Kenya
  • Liaising with Government agencies on behalf of investors in the region
  • Offering public relations.
  • Road network connecting the Western region and other parts of the Country
  • Proximity to Kisumu International Airport and Eldoret Airport
  • Availability of agricultural produce, that is eligible for export
  • Availability of labour in the region and other parts of the country
  • Availability of County Governments land for lease
  • Availability of private land for lease
