Visit From Makueni County Governor, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana

Makueni County Governor, Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, visited EPZ Athi River to acquaint himself with the EPZ program.
The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Executive Committee sought to understand potential EPZ investment opportunities that Makueni could take advantage of as he focuses in building the county’s economy and improve the livelihood of the residents.
Prof. Kibwana noted that the county is keen on curbing waste/ loses and boost prices among its mango fruit farmers; whose product could be value – added and sold to the export market. Makueni county has already commissioned a fruit processing plant with a capacity to process 5 metric tons of raw mangoes producing 3,000 litres of puree (mango concentrate) per hour.
The County is also rich in various agricultural products which can be processed into value-added export commodities; activities that are licenced under the EPZ program. These include processing of avocados, macadamia nuts and green beans.
The County is also in the process of identifying suitable land for setting up an EPZ to attract a growing interest by investors who are eager to invest near their source of raw materials and proximity to the already existing infrastructural facilities/developments.
